Inspirational Talk by Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Founder of Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL)
The CSR Committee of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) jointly with Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) organized an Inspirational Talk by Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Founder of Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) on April 25th, 2018 at J.B. Auditorium, AMA, Ahmedabad.
Mr. Sonam Wangchuk is a Ladakhi engineer, innovator and education reformist who has invented the Ice Stupa technique that creates artificial glaciers, used for storing winter water in form of conical shaped ice heap. SECMOL campus runs on solar energy and uses no fossil fuels for cooking, lighting or heating. He is the Real Life PHUNSUKH WANGDU from Aamir Khan’s 3 idiots.
GCCI President Mr. Shailesh Patwari and AMA President Mr. Rajiv Mehta gave the Opening Remarks while Mr. Piyush Desai, Chairman of GCCI’s CSR Committee introduced the guest Mr. Wangchuk.
Dr. Wangchuk shared glimpses of his life and his journey of creating a self-sustainable society & a sustainable ecosystem of constant innovation at SECMOL campus, Ladakh.
Mr. Wangchuk highlighted some of the flaws of the current education system and remarked that we need to re-think about the meaning and purpose of education. He said that the human mind does not need a classroom to grow. He suggested that children should be given practical training of basic concepts and then they should be encouraged to try these concepts to find solutions to day-today issues in real life. He suggested that innovation should be made a part of life and should be give more importance than theoretical knowledge.
Mr. Wangchuk also shared details of the new university being planned by him in Ladakh.
