GCCI in collaboration with Toxics Link, CITI-Gujarat, GCPC, and Paryavaran Mitra successfully hosted Stakeholder Consultation on Nonylphenol & its Ethoxylates.
The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and environmental experts to address the critical environmental and regulatory aspects of Nonylphenol, fostering discussions on sustainable practices within the textile and chemical industries. The inaugural session featured Mr. Yogesh Parikh, Chairman, Chemical Taskforce, GCCI, and Dr. Bharat Jain, Member Secretary, Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre, who provided insightful addresses on the importance of sustainable chemical practices. Presentations were delivered by Mr. Piyush Mohapatra, Senior Programme Coordinator, Toxics Link, who discussed the role of chemicals in textiles, and Professor (Dr.) Sudipta Maitra from the Department of Zoology, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, who elaborated on the toxicity of Nonylphenol. Dr. Deepak Marathe, Senior Programme Officer, Toxics Link, shared key findings from Toxics Link’s studies on Nonylphenol. The event concluded with an engaging panel discussion on chemical management and affordable alternatives, chaired by Mr. Satish Sinha, Associate Director, Toxics Link. Panelists included Dr. Chandrima Chatterjee, Secretary General, Confederation of Indian Textile Industries, Dr. Nitin Shah, Head of Chemical Technology Division, ATIRA, and representatives from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). The session was wrapped up with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Mr. Mahesh Pandya, Director, Paryavaran Mitra.
